One of the legal requirements to be met prior to applying for a private pilot license is to fly a solo cross country flight of about 170 miles. This photo was taken on 8/8/2003 after departing the Sedona airport. In an effort to reduce noise, the airfield is located on a mesa above the town, which makes for a dramatic lift off.
