Current Projects
Director and Individual Contributor supporting the American Express
Technologies (AET) Patent Team (10/2000 to present). The Patent Team
is
responsible for working with project teams and outside legal counsel
on
clearance analysis, patent preparation, infringement actions, and
licensing
agreements. The team provides education to project stakeholders and
managers
as to the value of IP protection. A number of processes have been put
into place which have lowered the costs associated with
patent
activities. To date the team
has filed
50 utility applications, in addition to a number of international and
design
filings, and has met 25% yearly increase goals over the last two
years.
Significant Professional Achievements
American Express (AMEX) Distributed Security System (DSS)
Standardization
project lead (1/1999-4/2000). Redesigned DSS installation process,
removing
dependency on application layer code base and processes – reducing
installation outages to supported web applications (401K, Small
Business
Services, International Payments, et al.) from 6 hours to less than 10
seconds. Constructed dedicated set of security servers in support of
Single
Sign-On client applications which do not rely on DSS for access to
systems of
record. Coordinated move of Sybase databases to dedicated hardware.
Performed
evaluation of 3rd party internet security solution (SiteMinder)
AMEX Interactive Cross-Sell team lead (6/1998-1/1999). The effort
represented
the first Consumer Card Services Group (CCSG) attempt to personalize
the
Check Your Bill website—providing targeted content and graphics,
including
personalized birthday and anniversary messages, special offers, and
service
advertisements. Content was assembled utilizing a combination of
distributed
and mainframe (IMS and Triumph via proprietary datastream)
databases, and implemented on the Internet Check-Your-Account (ExpressNet) system AIX C++ web framework.
AIX Build Team lead (11/1997-6/1998).
Managed team
of build engineers in creation of C++/C libraries, executables, and
other
deliverables, for AMEX project teams including: ExpressNet,
Financial Management Platform, DSS, and Service Establishment Online.
Responsibilities included managing build deliverable schedule for
multiple
releases and levels, provided assistance to development teams in
tools and
techniques for software creation, managed 3.5 million line code base.
Membership Rewards Real-Time Enrollment Team lead
(4/2000-10/2000). Implemented the first real-time interactive
enrollment
offering, which replaced the batch enrollment web feature. Project
was one of
the first Interactive Java implementations—utilizing a proprietary
command-bean framework on WebSphere 2.03.
Triumph 97.2 Release ExpressNet developer
(6/1997-2/1998). Project represented the first interactive
integration with
the Triumph system. Involved redesigning significant portions of the
ExpressNet business logic, and included a number
of
performance improvements.
Member of production support staff for ExpressNet
(10/1995-11/1997). Included troubleshooting hardware and software
failures on
the RS6000 environment, schedule and support 24x7
on-call
coverage, implementation of emergency fixes, and coordinate the
resolution of production problems/issues, between support staff,
project
management, integration test lab, developers, and business partners.
Conducted PC training seminars in the Charlotte, NC area for Access
Computer
Services (1995). Classes included: Power PC, MS-Windows, and Quicken.
Published “Be A Power User” course material, and an article detailing
how to
add mouse support to PC programs.
Designed the Automated Referral Procedure (10/1993-1/1994), for the
AT&T
Line-Services Agreement Center (LSA). This system was used by LSA to
perform
calling card security services for Pacific Bell, US West, Bell South,
NYNEX,
and New England Telephone; specifically by packaging and transmitting
fraud
detection referrals to the corresponding company via fax and eMail, providing hourly production reporting, and
disaster recovery procedures. It was implemented on a UNIX System V
platform,
via a series of Korn scripts.
Designed the employee performance assessment process used the by the
AT&T
Card Protection center (CPC) in the 1990s (1993). This reporting
system
provided statistic concerning production levels and accuracy among CPC
investigators, supervisor groups, and shifts. It consisted of a
series of SAS
jobs, run in a TSO environment via JCL.
